Grounding Principles and Goals(Group 6) Trying to introduce writing, how writing cannot be taught as a independent of content. Writing instructors should be experts readers. Students learn to recognize the need for expert opinion and cite it where necessary. Writing does not teach from principles. Help students understand nature of writing to explore.
(Group 2) -Seeking to give a concept, one says that it is of one logical type or category when in fact it is of another. -Not only students make this mistake, but also teachers are affected by this mistake as well. - Each teacher has his or hers own conception as to how they teach academic writing the biggest mistake that many take upon themselves.
- Many students are good in reading in small things for example in critical thinking which is important to reading articles and knowing how to break down a article to make sense or to how you can relate to the reading. Having a open ended mind set will enhance your skill to improve your reading representations.
Group 1: Systemic Misconception and Misdirection of Mainstream FYC
The assumption that writing can be taught in certain ways in order to be successful. the "Blue Ribbon" National Commission has two reports "The neglected R and Writing: A ticket to work...or a Ticket Out. These reports are favored by professors and business professionals as a structured point of writing. From grammar instruction, sentence diagramming, these are the ways of "successful writing" at least that is the assumption.
• Students who are (FYC) first year composition would have problems transferring to another to writing situations. • Teacher s do not know what genres and tasks will help students in the pyramid writing situations they will later find themselves. • Teachers do not know which genre to choose A over genre B, Instructors might help some students with their syntactic skilss. Readers and writers are not limited to well formed ideas and plans. Include information coded as visual images, emotions, linguistic positions and specific level words. Good readers have larger vocabulary, read quickly, are able to do well at comprehension. They can identify topic sentences, into critical reading involves more than careful reading.
writing about writing: rational and description (group 5) FYC is a course about how to understand and think about writing in school and society. The course includes many of the same activities current FYC courses: researching, reading, and writing arguments. It explains what writing is. Writing-about-writing has taught many different universities in different states.
-Ask what FYC can do to prepare students for academic writing. -English departments are mostly taught by adjuncts, graduates students & students from different majors. -The acted out assumption of a larger academic culture writing can be taught in one or two introduction writing skills. -If writing for discipline have authority over it's own important quality it must resist forms or genre usually used but inaccurate models. -A re-envisioned or new FYC shifts id a central goal. -Writing is neither basic nor universal but content has to be a new end consistant complex. -Keith Hjortshojs's facts of two master narratives about writing illustrates the shifts. -Common narratives prescribes that all good writing should have a clearly thesis stating the introduction.
To be able to identify the words in different perspectives and not just give a summary of the sentence or paragraph. Why are these students doing less then we hope? It is not that we are doing less we all go a different point of view of the things we do.
